The one and only kimono sneakers
Embracing time, a pair of shoes that are one of a kind in the world
Japanese kimonos embody the unique Japanese aesthetic sense, reflecting the four seasons and wishes.
It has been a part of people's lives and spiritual culture since ancient times, and each pattern has a meaning.
In today's Japan, the number of people who wear kimonos on a daily basis has decreased, and the demand for kimono bolts is also decreasing. Meanwhile, weavers, dyers, and craftsmen continue to produce small quantities of kimono bolts to keep the tradition alive. However, the reality is that many bolts of kimono end up sitting in warehouses or being disposed of because they "cannot be sold."

Wakon repurposes these lost fabrics into something that will once again add color to someone's life . Depending on the cutting position, the pattern will appear differently for each pair, creating a one-of-a-kind look .
With shoes that evoke the Japanese spirit, a story unfolds with every step, becoming a bridge connecting the past and the present.
It's not about "wearing a kimono," but " walking in a kimono ."
What you will find there is a new cultural experience where Japanese aesthetics intersect with modern sensibilities.
Take your own step with Japanese aesthetic sense.

A comfortable walking experience created by artisans
70 years of shoemaking experience, right at your feet
These Japanese spirit sneakers are made by Axt (and Steady) Ltd., a long-established shoemaking company located in Asakusa, Tokyo.
This long-established shoe manufacturer has been supporting Japanese shoemaking for 70 years since its founding. The skills and sensibilities of its artisans have been cultivated to support the "comfortable walking" that is the essence of Japanese spirit.

Changing the way you walk: Japanese techniques and spirit
Of particular note is his deep understanding of leather tanning and processing, and his skillful cutting techniques that bring out the best in kimono fabric.
Each piece of genuine cowhide is carefully selected for its thickness, softness, and surface texture, and placed in the right place to ensure a comfortable fit and durability .
Since the pattern on each kimono fabric is different , the craftsman checks by hand each time when cutting (cutting out) the fabric to determine which position will look the most beautiful and create the best balance for the feet.
In addition, the three-dimensional wooden last design, honed through many years of shoemaking, and the precise construction of the core material (shank) and midsole support the entire sole of the foot, providing a firm sense of stability and a light step .
It's not just the look, but the quality is something you can really feel when you wear them .

The adjustable laces on the instep, the leather that conforms to the shape of your foot, the kimono pattern that flatters your feet - all of these are carefully crafted down to the parts you can't see, which is why you can experience the difference .
With the proven technology that comes from 70 years of history, we continue to create shoes that are more than just shoes.
With the traditions passed down at our feet
The aesthetic sense and wishes embodied in a single kimono
Wakon sneakers are not just "Japanese style."
The fabric used is genuine kimono fabric that once graced someone's special day .
The view of nature, aesthetic sense, and prayer that the Japanese have held dear since ancient times are embodied in each and every weave and dye.

Sustainability begins with "mottainai" (waste not)
A new life for a fabric that will last a lifetime
The bolts of fabric used for kimonos are meant to last a lifetime.
However, in modern times, there are many pieces of fabric that have not been tailored and many bolts of fabric that remain unused due to minor defects.
Wakon breathes new life into these bolts of cloth by upcycling them into genuine leather sneakers.
This product was born from the idea that "it's a shame to throw it away" and "it's too beautiful to let it sit unused."

Transforming the fragility of one-of-a-kind items into value
Each upcycled bolt of fabric has a different pattern, creating a one-of-a-kind look.
The " delicacy " of fabric may sometimes make it less durable.
However, this is also an expression of the uniquely Japanese sensibility that cherishes transience - the idea that " beauty resides in transience ."
The word " mottainai " embodies the spirit of valuing life and respecting materials. This spirit quietly resonates with modern sustainability.
